This song was written by the duo, Shirley Goodman (later Shirley Pixley) and Leonard Lee, and by September 8, 1956 had climbed to #20 in the US charts.The song has a strong steady beat, much of which is provided by drummer Earl Palmer. The song was included on the compilation album The Big 16 Golden Oldies issued by Scepter Records in 1964. It also was included in the soundtrack of the movie Stand By Me.It has been recorded by many others including Sonny & Cher, Bunny Sigler, The Righteous Brothers, Delbert McClinton, Barbra Streisand, The Searchers, Whiskey Howl, Joe Strummer, Harry Nilsson, Roy Orbison, The Youngbloods, Conway Twitty, Slade, Freddy Fender, Buckwheat Zydeco, The Animals, Fishbone, The Kingsmen, The Sonics and most recently in 2008 by George Clinton featuring the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kim Manning.
