abstract
  • Suicidal Tendencies is an US-based hardcore punk and metal band. The band was formed in 1981 in Venice, CA by vocalist Mike Muir. Since the band's inception, Muir has been the group's only constant member, although rhythm guitarist Mike Clark was with the group from 1988 until 2013. The group started off as hardcore punk act and their 1983 self-titled debut scored an unexpected hit with the song %22Institutionalized%22, whose video got heavy airplay on MTV. In 1984, citing concerns about crowd violence, the group was banned from performing live in the city of Los Angeles. The ban remained in effect until the early 1990s. By the end of the 1980s, the band had evolved into a full-fledged thrash metal band and would soon begin adding more funk influences into their music. In 1995, the group announced their split, marking the end to their most commercially successful period. Mike Muir and Mike Clark would resurrect the band in 1996 with new members and the group continues to this day, although their recorded output has been sparse since reuniting. Throughout Suicidal's career, Muir has fronted a number of side-projects like Los Cycos, No Mercy (3), Infectious Grooves, and his own solo act, Cyco Miko. These acts have usually featured other members of Suicidal, as well.

  • Suicidal Tendencies is an American crossover thrash band founded in 1981 in Los Angeles, California by vocalist Mike Muir, who is the only remaining original member of the band. The band is often credited (along with D.R.I.) as one of %22the fathers of crossover thrash%22. To date, Suicidal Tendencies have released nine studio albums, one EP, four split albums including the rare Welcome to Venice, six compilation albums (one of which is a %22double-EP%22, while the other is a re-recording of their debut album), and two long-form videos.Suicidal Tendencies rose to fame with their 1983 self-titled debut album, which spawned the single %22Institutionalized%22, and was one of the first hardcore punk videos to receive substantial airplay on MTV. Suicidal Tendencies' next release was on their own label, Suicidal Records, where they contributed one song, %22Look Up...(The Boys Are Back)%22, on the 1985 split Welcome to Venice. The band's second album, Join the Army, was not released until 1987. Join the Army attracted the attention of Epic Records, who signed Suicidal Tendencies in 1988 and issued their third album, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today, later that year. This was followed by their next two albums, Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit...Déjà Vu and Lights...Camera...Revolution!, which were also highly successful and both certified Gold by the RIAA.After releasing three more studio albums (The Art of Rebellion, Still Cyco After All These Years and Suicidal for Life), the band broke up and severed ties from Sony and Epic in 1995. However, they reunited in 1997 and have continued to perform and record since then. After over a decade of work and many lineup changes, the band released their eleventh studio album with all-new material, 13, in 2013.
