| - Formed in 1969 in São Paulo, SP, Brazil, the Pholhas was named as a suggestion from a friend of members Paulo Fernandes, Oswaldo Malagutti, Helio Santisteban and Wagner Benatti during the first trial.The band played at dances from the city to gain a significant following. And it happened quickly.The first album was recorded in 1972 by RCA Records, all sung in English even when it was not common in Brazil where the language is Portuguese.The LP DEAD FACES reached the # 1 spot of the charts in just 3 months after launch with 450,000 copies sold. This work won the Pholhas the first gold record.Then, %22She Made Me Cry%22, %22I Never Did Before%22 and %22Forever%22 sold over 300,000 copies and popularized the band as a phenomenon on the national scene. Because of this impact, RCA released DEAD FACES in Spain and throughout South America in 1975, with the title HOJAS. It was the second gold album of the band.In 1977, for contractual and strong pressure from the RCA, recorded the LP THE SOUND OF DISCOTHEQUE containing covers of the main successes of Disco Music. Sold over 150,000 copies. This year, Helio Santisteban left the band. Instead, enter keyboardist Marinho Testoni.In 1977, a radical change of style.
