  • Kirsty MacColl (b.October 10, 1959, Croydon, South London, UK - d.December 19, 2000 in Cozumel, Mexico) was an English singer-songwriter. The daughter of folk singer [a615404] and dancer Jean Newlove; sister of [a417669] and half-sister to [a281142], [a257511] and [a353818] (of [a281126]). After a brief stint in 1978 with her first band [a1459785], she went solo and scored a big hit with the single %22There's a Guy Works Down the Chip Shop Swears He's Elvis%22 in 1981. In 1984, she married producer [a50809], and had two children [a424408] and [a424409]. She decided to concentrate less on her music and raise her children by solely performing back-up vocals on various projects. In 1987, one of her contributions was the Christmas hit with [a253234] %22Fairytale of New York%22. She later came back in 1989 to record the %22Kite%22 album. In 1991, she put out her %22Electric Landlady%22 album which provided her with the very big hit %22Walking Down Madison%22. A few years later in 1993, %22Titanic Days%22 was released. Kirsty died in Cozumel, Mexico after being hit by a speedboat which had crossed into an area restricted to swimmers only. Five months after her death, her final recording %22Tropical Brainstorm%22 was posthumously released on Instinct records.

  • Kirsty Anna MacColl (10 October 1959 – 18 December 2000) was an English singer and songwriter. She wrote and recorded several pop hits between the early 1980s and the 1990s. In addition, she sang on hit recordings produced by her then-husband Steve Lillywhite, notably on tracks by The Smiths and The Pogues. At the age of 41, MacColl died after being hit by a boat in Mexico.
