  • Gloria Estefan is an American singer, songwriter and actor with Cuban roots. She was born September 01, 1957 in Havana, Cuba as Gloria Fajardo García, her family moved to Miami during Gloria's childhood. In America, she spent her adolescence in modest circumstances, but managed to gain an University degree in French and psychology. Her first profession was translator at the Miami International Airport. In 1976 she got married and became mother of two children in 1978 and 1980.Her husband introduced her into his band 'Miami Latin Boys' in 1976, which was renamed to [a48245] in 1977. The band was not very successful first, which changed by a major record deal with [l146220] in 1980. It took again 4 years, until the band had its charts breakthrough in 1984 with the title %22Dr.Beat%22. This was followed by a huge success within the 1980's by numerous hits from numerous hit albums. She went first solo in 1989, but still with the [a48245] as a backing band. This first era of international success ended on March 20th, 1990, when Gloria had a severe car crash, which took her into a long phase of regeneration, until she was active again in 1991, when she released her crash-inspired album %22Into the Light%22.Starting in 1993, her career split by a number of Latin albums. This brought her huge success in the Latin community in America on the one hand, on the other hand she couldn't reach the same level of success in the rest of the world. In the 1990's she also started an alternative career on movies (e.g. in [a785749]'s %22Music of the Heart%22 with [a1171936] and she began to write children's books. After 2001, her activity on music releases weakened, as she turned to other activities with her husband [a105671]. Together they run 7 restaurants, 2 hotels and they possess shares of the Miami football team %22Miami Dolphins%22.

  • Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García de Estefan (born September 1, 1957), known professionally as Gloria Estefan, is a Cuban American singer, songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur. She started off her career as the leading vocalist in the group called %22Miami Latin Boys%22 which was eventually known as Miami Sound Machine. Her breakthrough success with Conga in 1985 made her known worldwide. It won the grand prix in the 15th annual Tokyo Music Festival in Japan. This is also her signature song. In the summer of 1988 she and the band got their first number one for the song Anything For You. She has a Contralto vocal range. She garnered honorific nicknames such as %22The Queen of Latin Pop%22.In March 1990, she had a severe accident in her tour bus. She made her comeback in March 1991 with a new world tour and album called Into The Light. Estefan became a worldwide inspiration after that. Her 1993 Spanish-language album Mi Tierra won the first of her three Grammy Awards for Best Tropical Latin Album. It was the first number-one album on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, established when it was released. It was also the first Diamond album in Spain. Many of her songs like Rhythm Is Gonna Get You, 1-2-3, Get On Your Feet, Here We Are, Coming Out of the Dark, Bad Boy, Oye!, Party Time and a remake of Vicki Sue Robinson's Turn the Beat Around became international hits, with chart-topping scores.Estefan is one of the world's best-selling music artists of all time, with an estimated 100 million records sold worldwide, including 31.5 million in the United States alone. She is the most successful crossover to date.She has won seven Grammy Awards. Estefan also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Las Vegas Walk of Fame and The Ellis Island Congressional Medal of Honor, which is the highest award that can be given to a naturalized U.S. citizen. Estefan also won the Hispanic Heritage Award, an MTV Video Music Award, two ACE Awards and the National Music Foundation's Humanitarian of the Year Award. She was also honored with the American Music Award for Lifetime Achievement as well as being named BMI Songwriter of the Year. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has received multiple Billboard Awards for her many chart-topping hits.She is also on the list of Vh1 top 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and one of the Top 50 female Artists Who Will Never Be Forgotten, according to The Sun tabloid, UK. In 2015 she was added to the list of Now It Counts as one of The Most Powerful Americans and in Billboard Top 30 Most Influential Latin Artists Of All Time.
