  • Don Covay (born March 24, 1938, Orangeburg, South Carolina, USA - died January 30, 2015, Franklin Square, New York, USA) was an American R&B, rock and roll, blues and soul singer and songwriter. He initially sang in his family's gospel quartet and then founded the doo-wop group Rainbows. He was an important figure in the soul music explosion of the 1960's as a writer and performer. His first big hit was Pony Time by Chubby Checker (1961) and he also wrote the [a38863] hits See-Saw (co-written with [a292375]) and Chain Of Fools.

  • Donald James Randolph (March 24, 1936 – January 31, 2015), better known by his stage name Don Covay, was an American R&B, rock and roll and soul singer and songwriter most active from the 1950s to the 1970s. His most successful recordings included %22Mercy, Mercy%22 (1964), %22See-Saw%22 (1965), and %22It's Better To Have (And Don't Need)%22 (1974). Other songs written by Covay included %22Pony Time%22, a US #1 hit for Chubby Checker, and %22Chain of Fools%22, a Grammy-winning song for Aretha Franklin. He received a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1994.Writing in The Washington Post after his death, Terence McArdle said: %22Mr. Covay’s career traversed nearly the entire spectrum of rhythm-and-blues music, from doo-wop to funk.%22
