dbo:abstract
  • Cynic is an American progressive rock band — incorporating experimental music, alternative, metal and jazz fusion elements — founded in Miami, Florida, and currently based in Los Angeles, California. The band's current lineup consists of Paul Masvidal on guitar and vocals, Sean Malone on bass and Matt Lynch on drums. Drummer Sean Reinert's departure/firing from Cynic in September 2015 left Masvidal as the only remaining original member of the band. Their first album, Focus (1993), is widely regarded as a landmark release of the progressive metal genre. Cynic disbanded in 1994, but reunited in 2006, and has since released two more studio albums and two EPs.
